The Hertford Reformer reports the almost entire destruction of Luton

Hoo, the Marquis of Bute's seat, by fire, early yesterday morning. The flames were first perceived by the porter at two o'clock, in the roof over the grand hall. The Luton engines were sent for ; but, as the supply of water was a quarter of a mile distant, they were of little use. The Hitchin engines were then fetched, and they arrived at seven o'clock—too late ; for by ten o'clock, the great hall, the library, (comprising three fine rooms,) and the right wing, were in ruins. The domestics and the townspeople of Luton, however, exerted themselves so well, that the valuable collections of paintings, books, and virtil, and nearly all the furniture, were saved. The fire is attributed to the in- cautiousness of some plumbers. The Marquis of Bate is at Cardiff in Wales, but he is expected home shortly.
