Last night's Gazette contains the Speaker's notice preparatory to the
issue of a writ, in fourteen days, for the election of a Member for East Worcestershire, in the room of the late Mr. Barneby, deceased. It, is re- ported that Mr. W. E. Gladstone will oppose Mr. Iledgetts Foley, a Li: beral, for the representation of the district. Colonel Rushout, a Tory, is also in the field.
We understand that Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Gee-1)8rd le Merchant wlll succeed the Honourable Frederick Bruce as Lieutenant-Governor of New- foundland. Sir Gaspard is at present in command of the Eighty-fifth Light Infantry at Limerick.—Times.
