There was some sympathy fOr Sir Herbert Sainuel's attack on

Wednesday on the multiplication of offices in the new Government. None question the wisdom of the inclusion of men like Lord Eustace Percy or Mr. Eden, but it is felt that there are already sufficient offices that carry with them few departmental duties without adding to their number. There is, for instance, the Chancellor- ship of the Duchy of Lancaster. The work entailed there is stated to be about two hours a week. Then there is the office of Lord Privy Seal. It entails no depart- mental work at all. These are occupied respectively by Mr. J. C. C. Davidson and Lord Londonderry,
