At a banquet at the Hotel M6tropole on Wednesday, Mr.

Schnadhorst received a testimonial of 10,000 guineas, subscribed by all sections of the Liberal Party, as an acknowledgment of his services in organising the party. Dr. It. W. Dale, in pro- posing the toast of "The Liberal Party," said that the proposals of the Government with regard to Ireland might be of such a character, that when the time came to meet them, the schism now existing might become an impassable gulf. He pressed on the party the weighty words of Richard Hooker, with reference to controversies of another kind :—" There will come a time when three words uttered with charity and meekness, will receive a far more blessed reward than three thousand volumes written with a disdainful sharpness and wit."
