A School Course of Heat. By W. Larden, M.A. (Sampson
Low and Co.)—This treatise combines, within moderate limits, an ele- mentary text-book for beginners, with lessons for advanced classes. Equal attention is paid to the experimental and to the theoretical aspects of the subject. The illustrations are freely introduced, and if not new, are for the most part appropriate. Here and there we may meet with statements which are not quite in accord with the latest experimental results (as in the sections on "absorption," pp. 257, et seq.) Again, we may object to the usage and definition of such terms as "force" and " weight " (pp. 270 and 271), but the book will, we think, supply the want of a suitable class-book on the subject of Heat for our public schools.
