It was announced on Thursday that Lord Justice Lindley had
resigned the office of Master of the Rolls and been made a Lord of Appeal, and that Sir Richard Webster has succeeded him. Sir Robert Finlay becomes Attorney - General, and Mr. Carson takes the vacant post of Solicitor-General. That Sir Richard Webster will prove a good President of the Court of Appeal we do not doubt ; while in Sir Robert Finlay the Government will have a chief legal adviser of great weight and judgment, not merely in purely legal matters but in the border region between law and politics,—a region where wise counsel is often greatly needed.
