Respectable Perth
Sir: I refer to your article entitled 'Twenty years of Perth' by Roy Kerridge, which appeared in your recent Scottish issue (16 March). To state, as Mr Kerridge has done, that Perth is 'brawling and danger- ous at night when the pubs turn out' and that he found 'respectably dressed men reeling about swearing at night', is simply blatant and utterly misleading rubbish. I cannot find words capable of rejecting such misleading statements. Perth is a highly respectable county town, where the citizens are rightly proud of their historic and renowned tourist city.
Gutter journalism like this unfairly dam- ages our city's image in many ways and will, I suspect, doubtless damage the fine reputation of your magazine amongst those who know Perth properly.
