Eagle Joe. By Henry Herman. (Griffith, Farran, and Co.)— This

"Wild-West Romance" is of the type with which various writers have made us familiar. It is a mixture of adventure and love, and the hero is a stalwart person, whose lawlessness some- how turns out to be more noble than the law-abiding respectability of others. Mr. Herman writes this kind of thing at least as well as most of his rivals ; but we must own that we do not find it very attractive, and that we are haunted by a certain sense of doubt as to its reality.
