Sir: Mr George Caldwell (Letters, 30 July) asks 'Why did Germany start the war in the first place?'

All the books I have read on the subject indicate that Britain declared war on Ger- many in 1939. Is Mr Caldwell one of those revisionists we keep reading about who are rewriting history?
