tilHE only fresh war news of importance this week was
' received on Friday. On the night of July 3rd Lord Methuen surprised a Boer laager near Zeerust, took forty- three prisoners, and a large quantity of• stores and cattle. Lord Methuen's work during the present war deserves the gratitude of the nation in the highest degree. His =tiring zeal and self-sacrifice in nearly two years of continuous work in the field make him the wonder and admiration of the whole Army.
