Ball bearings

Sir: John Osborne refers to my friend Rory Knight Bruce in the most unflattering detail (Diary, 30 May). I have always found Rory to be a kind and generous creature if sometimes highly charged and excitable.

I too am in receipt of the same Hunt Ball invitation as Mr Osborne and it clearly states that carriages are for 3 pm, and not 3 am as he states. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the rest of the story.
