Our Parliamentary Correspondent writes : The House accepted with remarkable calmness the situation created by Herr Hitler's remilitarisation of the Rhineland. This was largely due to the admirable statement made by Mr. Eden before leaving for Paris. Seldom has It Govern- ment pronouncement of such importance received such a general measure of agreement. There was no disposition to criticise it or suggest an alternative line of action, and thus the discussion on the White Paper which followed was concentrated in the main on the problems of defence, and did not centre, as at one time seemed inevitable, on the immediate issues of foreign policy.
