On Friday, May 5th, Mr. Shaw-Lefevre announced in the House
of Commons that Hampton Court Park, with the exception of one or two meadows, would in future be thrown open to the public ; and that the Queen had withdrawn the per- mission to shoot in Bushey Park given to Baron Rammingen. It is, of course, a subject of congratulation, both that so beau- tiful a park should have been added to the open spaces near London, and that Baron Rammingen and others should not be allowed to shoot rabbits among the pedestrians in what is virtually a Metropolitan pleasure-ground; but the wonder is that the Park at Hampton Court should have been closed so long, not that it should have been thrown open. We presume that the refusal of the Treasury to pay for a new gate has been the real obstacle.
