Unlettered

A reader received this letter from the BBC: Dear Mr Calder stephen, Your letter of 9 August has just been passed on to me so I must apologise for the delay in my reply.

I regret to tell you that your grasp of history is a little shaky. There was no mention of Hyrodgen Bombs [sic] in our programme. The first Hydrogen Bomb was not exploded until the 1950s. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were des- troyed by Atomic Bombs, namely Plutonium and Uranium Bombs.

I'm also afraid that you are not quite so 'aware of the truth at the time' as you claim. Of course Winston Churchill went to Postdam [sic]. He represented Britain at half the plenerary [sic] meet- ings while Attlee sat in for the other half. 1 would suggest you take any book on the conferance [sic] and gaze across the pictures of Churchill Stalin and Truman gathered round the table. Perhaps you might believe the evidence of your own eyes.

We on Timewatch also belive [sic] in acuracy [sic]. Which is why we felt it was time to rewrite the old history books.

Sincerely, Robert Marshall
