Major-General Sir James Carmichael Smyth has been appointed Lieutenant-Governor of
British Guiana, comprehending the Colonies of Demerara, Essequibo, and Berbice.
Sir William Russell, Chief Justice of Bengal, died on the 18th of December last. Sir Edward Ryan, at present one of the Puisne Judges at Calcutta, is appointed to succeed the late Chief Justice.
A commission of lunacy has been granted at New York against Ex- Sheriff Parkins, at the instance of his solicitor, Mr. T. G. Fletcher.
