echning literacy
Sir: Dr Boyson's article, 'Flight from reality' (March 1) makes disturbing reading: disturbing because of the declining standards of literacy of the children in our schools, and also because of the faulty grammar of Dr Boyson himself. I quote. "Why can't the present teachers do the job for which they are paid between 9 am and 4 pm, like the other teachers did?" 'Like' is a preposition, and cannot introduce a clause.
