It is worth while to keep an eye on the
steady increase of the French-speaking population of Canada, which in the ordinary course of nature will soon overtake the English-speaking section. What the ordinary course of nature is may be gathered by the case of the seven daughters of a gentleman named Marcoux. Between them they at present have 105 living children—and there have, I believe, been some who are alive no longer. News of them reaches me from a perfectly reliable source.
