Q. My godson, who is an old Wy,lehamist, has obviously

forgotten his school motto (`Manners Maketh Man'). He presented his wedding-present cheque but failed to acknowledge receipt. What course of action, if any, would you suggest?

R.S., Chipata, Zambia A. Get to the bottom of this outrage by sending a second cheque for exactly the same sum. Explain that you are disappointed that your postal system has obviously failed to deliver the cheque you had originally sent since you posted it in good time to mark the occasion. In this way you will be able to force an acknowledgment out of the uncouth soand-so, as he will be certain to return the second cheque to you. Needless to say, you should take the precaution of cancelling the second cheque, just in case your godson has fallen victim to an addiction of some kind.
