Sir Arthur Griffith-Boscawen, the Minister of Agriculture, was returned for

Taunton in the by-election on Friday, April 8th. Colonel Boles, the Unionist member, had resigned the seat to make room for the new Minister, who was defeated when he stood for re-election at Dudley last month. Sir Arthur Griffith-Boscawen defeated his Labour opponent by the hand- some majority of 4,704 votes. While the Unionist poll had risen only from 12,619 at the General Election to 12,994, the Labour poll had gone up from 4,816 to 8,290.
