received my copy of the Spectator to-day and opening it at random, my attention was arrested by the article on p. 833—" The Modern Home." Permit me to say that I have seldom, if ever, seen the pages of a high-class publication, such as yours is supposed to be, debased with such noxious drivel—stuff the modern designates as " tripe." The writer's colossal ignorance of his subject is only equalled by the effrontery of his style, and if this nauseous bleating is indicative of your paper generally, I have no wish to be numbered among your readers.—I am, Sir, &c., [An interesting illustration of the effect of a criticism of English architecture on one English architect.—Ed.
