Sir: In his article on the Honours system, Hugh Massingberd

cites his cousin, Dame Veronica Wedgwood, as being the only author to hold the Order of Merit. I think he should apologise to Sir Isaiah Berlin, who is the author of a whole series of enthralling, idiosyncratic, and irreplaceable books, and who also deservedly holds the Order of Merit.
