Author of Diana Cooper
Sir: Pace the agonisingly arch Kenneth Rose (Arts, 9 November) Diana Cooper has never repeat never been heard to refer to Harry Cust as 'Papa', which is how she quite naturally and lovingly addressed the ninth Duke of Rutland, both before and after she had learned that he was not strictly the 'author of her being'. That is not to say that she did not smile on being told that a foreign ambassadress had de- scribed a portrait of Cust as 'the dead spit and image of Diana wearing a heavy cavalry moustache'.

P.S. Please note that I don't live in the International-rich-multicolour-trash-resort of Gstaad, but merely happened to address my last (2 November) letter to you from there while checking out over an agreeable al fresco lunch your columnist Taki's hotel reservations for the 1986 skiiing season.
