Hero Tales of the Par North. By Jacob A. R:is.
(Macmillan and Co. 6s. net.)—We cannot allow that Gustav Vasa, and Gustavus Adolphus, to take two out of the "four great Northern Kings," are "little more than names to the English reader." Nevertheless, we are grateful to Mr. Riis for these "Hero Tales." About some of the heroes we certainly know less than we should—about "the Apostle of the Eskimos," for instance— but young readers might have been spared some of the details of Eskimo manners. There are other greatly striking figures and interesting narratives. In the latter we feel bound to single out the account—a Dane's account, let it be remembered—of the battle of Copenhagen.
