The Little King. By C. Major. (Macmillan and Co. 6s.)-Mr.
Major has given us a vivid picture of the childhood of Louis XIV. The descriptive passages are chiefly in a good English style, but the dialogue is an almost literal translation of what the characters would have said if they had been speaking French. The effect is odd, but not unpleasing, and the author has skilfully combined history and romance.
