IMPORTANT ASSURANCE FUSION.

One of the most interesting and, at the same time, one of the most natural insurance alliances which have taken place for some time, is the proposed fusion of the Metropolitan Life Assurance Society with the London Life Association, the announcement of which was made last Monday. Both pre " mutual " companies and, although the Metropolitan Life is much the smaller of the two concerns, it has conducted a thoroughly sound business. The London Life was estab- lished in 1806 and the Metropolitan about thirty years later. The funds of the London Life aggregate over £15,500,000 and those of the Metropolitan over £2,600,000, so that the amalgamated concern will have funds well over £18,000,000, with a premium income of nearly £1,500,000.
