DEPARTING WINGS. By Faith Baldwin. (Sampson Low. 7s. 6d.) —
The first chapters, describing an American naval aviation station, are delightful reading The exhilaration which pilots feel is extremely well rendered, and the reader is sorry when David, the hero, retires from the Air Service in order to make Money for his wife in New York. Thereafter the novel becomes merely an account of David's and Sylvia's attempts to make their marriage a success. The usual third parties appear on both sides. After many vicissitudes and an apparent complete failure we leave them reunited and ready to make a fresh start ; but the wings of passion have departed as well as the wings of the Air Service. The book gives a good picture of contemporary social life in the United States.
