THE COST OF GROWING WHEAT
[To the Editor of THE SPECTATOR.] Sin,—I am glad to note Sir W. Beach Thomas has acknow- ledged that his note was intended to be reductio ad absurdum of the claims of meehanizers.
I might add that it is a very different thing to grow wheat consecutively on a small plot of land suited to wheat growing such as the instance he has mentioned, than to grow it on a thousand acres of land which in nearly all parts of England must have variations in the block itself.
As to his quotation from my book, Horn Hoof and Corn," of" is quite obviously a misprint and should be "at." This is clearly shown from the context.—I am, Sir, &c.,
