[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] Sia,—It amuses me in
a way to come home from Canada and read letters in all kinds of papers re hunting, as if there is a doubt if it less cruel to hunt an animal to death or shoot it. I have worked with animals nearly all my life and know a little abont-ihein: .13.6 the public know that some of the rivers and streams are blocked so that the stag cannot get up? Surely there must be one or two Englishmen who can shoot to kill? Myself, I would rather be shot than 'hunted_ to 'death. The very few people who hunt are getting in u blue funk lest we who are humane put down hunting, " which ought to be 'done." Why not have a drag hunt ? Remember,
there are more people living in the country now and the animals are getting tamer. We call ourselves sportsmen ;
