with the old system of large and nauseous doses. He
might almost have taken for the motto of his book the old rhyme, which declares that brandy is for all men the very best of physic, he seems to have pro- scribed it so often, and to have found it so successful. Of his theory that hysteria is very often the real cause of much of the suffering which is attributed to far more serious diseases of coarse we shall not speak.
Will he take it as a compliment that we have found his lectures ex- tremely interesting ? Some men who write on special subjects are offended at the praises of laymen.
