Srlt.—With all due deference to so high an authority as Prince- Lucien. Bonaparte, I incline to the opinion that the most probable derivation of the word " Jingo " is that given by the- author of the" Ingoldsby Legends," in the subjoined foot-note to- the "Lay of St. Dunstan" :—" St. Jingo, or Gengo (Gengulphus), sometimes styled the living Jingo, from the great tenacionsnese of vitality exhibited by his severed members.
