was returning from some duty at the front, down the "East Gully" in Gallipoli to my dug-out at "Deckhouse Post," in July last year, with a very keen ear for the sighing of shells and the chirping of bullets, I was suddenly arrested by a sound that seemed strangely familiar and revived memories of ray schooldays.
