To J. S. Sargent, R.A., R.W.S. in the " Famous
Water- Colour Painters" series (Studio, Mr. Martin Hardie contributes an illuminating Introduction upon the artist's technique. Here he differs from Mr. Evan Charteris, Sargent's biographer, who says that the painter " trusted for his high-lights to the white of the paper." On the contrary, Mr. Hardie shows that he habitually used the opaque method.
The eight drawings illustrated include the famous " Siesta " and " Miss Eliza Wedgwood and Miss Sargent Sketching.",
