The very notion
Sir: When I was working for Punch in the 1950s, Evelyn Waugh offered to send us an article suggesting that Tito was in fact a woman. Malcolm Muggeridge, then the editor, wisely decided that publication would be likely to cause legal and other dif- ficulties, and the offer was declined. But it would be interesting if Fitzroy Maclean ('Who is killing the most Germans?', 25 July), or indeed anyone, could now give us an idea how Mr Waugh could have come by such a notion.
