Stn,—With reference to Mr. E. D. Morel's letter which appeared in your issue of the 18th ult., I am instructed by my board to contradict the statement that the British financial interest in the mineral wealth of Katanga is eighty-one per cent. and the Belgian interest nineteen per cent. The British interest in Katanga is held by this company, and represents forty-five per cent., and the Belgian interest is fifty-five per cent. A confirmation of this statement is contained in the reply which M. Renkin, the Colonial Minister, made in the Belgian Chamber of Representatives three days before Mr. Morel's letter.
