criticises persons, policy, and strategy pretty freely. One wide indictment
he brings against the Army,—that it is paralysed by jealousy. Why, he asks in particular, did De Wet escape so often? Lord Methuen might have caught him, if he had been backed Up; the Colonials might have caught him, if they had had the chance given them. This is a specimen of his censures. We shall not give any more ; but wa feel sure that this is a book which ought to be carefully considered by the historian.
