The great object is to save the Unionist Party from
being obliterated by Mr. Lloyd George. For our part we want the Unionist Party to be as large as possible—we would exclude nobody who professes the interests of true Unionism. On the other hand, it would be necessary to part company from those who do not even now recognize that Mr. Lloyd George's incalculable methods—his methods being distinct from his policy-7-have steadily been undermining the Unionist Party, and if accepted for the future will reduce it to impotence. We have written on this subject elsewhere, but it will be understood that our leading article was written before the Carlton Club meeting was held.
