DOCTOR IN DEARTH Siii—May I refer to the leader headed

'Doctor in Dearth' published in your issue of December 8?

In it, it is stated that whilst 'orthodox medicine has become well disposed to giving recognition, the osteopaths themselves . . . prefer to remain outside the NHS.'

I should like to point out that the osteopathic pro- fession has not. officially, been given the opportunity to state its preference in the matter. It is, of course, aware of the difficulties of obtaining a status within the 'orthodox medical circle' commensurate with its present freedom of prescription of treatment based upon independent diagnosis.
