In Switzerland the disputes still continue. A private letter of
the 16th, dated Mulhausen, describes a rencontre between the troops of the corporation of Basle and the peasantry, in which several persons fell on the corporition side, and a few prisoners of the peasantry were taken. Some hopes are entertained of an amicable settlement ; and if the peasants hold out, those hopes will be realized—otherwise the amicable settlement will be but a restoration of the old corporation tyranny. It is a curious feature in these disturbances, to find the Emperor of Austria, who had been charged with disapproving of them, plisclaimine-, through the German papers, the imputation, as whollAoid of truth.
