The Durham by-election, which took place on Tuesday, resulted in
the return of Mr. Wing, the Liberal, by a majority of 2,123 over the Unionist and of 2,765 over the Labour candidate. The Unionist polled 642 votes more than the Labour candidate. The last election was not three-cornered, and ended in a majority for the Liberal of 6,011. There is therefore little political comfort to be got for anyone out of the election. It is a case of "As you were."
