POETRY.

VOICES OF THE SEA.

AGAIN I linger by the Langland shore, And listen to the music of the Sea, For some familiar voice to speak to me Out of the deep, sweet, sad harmonious roar ; Whose murmuring cadences sound like a store Of loving words, treasures of memory, Once breathed into the ambient air, to be Vibrated through the ages evermore.

The infinite tides environ us : no strain That e'er awakened human smiles or tears Is lost; nor shall we call it back in vain.

Beside the shore, amid the eternal spheres, Hark, the beloved voices once again Rise from the waves and winds to soothe mine ears.
