The question of finance is of prime importance, and we

sincerely trust that those who feel strongly on this matter will not allow the fund to be merely the outcome of large subscriptions by rich men. No work really flourishes which is done under these conditions. We want the £1,000 and the £100 men, no doubt, but we want even more the £10 and the £1 men. If any of our readers, instead of sending their subscriptions direct, like to send them through the Spectator, we shall be most happy to receive them and forward them to the right quarter and to acknowledge them in the Spectator.
