The Queen's Horses—and the Queen's Men Harry Legge-Bourke served for
a dozen years in the Blues before entering Parliament in 1945. Now he has written, or rather rewritten, for his book first appeared in 1951, an enthralling account of the history of the Household Cavalry and the Brigade of Guards on ceremonial occasions. We are better at staging great occa- sions than any other country, and oddly enough we have begun to write this down as if it only made sense in another century. Perhaps this would be true if the Household Brigade were only toy soldiers. In fact any soldier of any regi- ment will tell you that the twd finest fighting units in the world' were his own unit—and the Brigade. Sir Harry's book The Queen's Guards (Macdonald, 75s.) is not cheap, but the colour illustrations alone are worth the money. And it is a tale worth telling, and well told.
