SIAMESE TIN SYNDICATE
Although the Siamese Tin Syndicate, like other tin-mining companies, has earned a smaller profit for 1938 than for 1937, Mr. K. 0. Hunter, the chairman, was able to strike a hopeful note at the meeting on Wednesday. Owing to Siam's minimum quota of ',too tons, quota cuts there have been somewhat less drastic than in dlier tin-producing territories. Moreover, profits for the first five months of the current year are esti- mated at £48,855 compared with £39,371 in the first five months of 1938. The 719 tons of output in the first five months of 1939 included 143 tons of buffer pool contribution which have been brought into account at cost of production plus Government Royalty only. He looks for a further reduc- tion in costs this year. * * * *
