Shakespeare's Othello, the Moor of Venice. Illustrated by Ludovic Marchetti.
(Simpkin, Marshall, and Co.)—The illustrations are spirited and effective, the grouping of the figures in some of the scenes being particularly good. Othello himself is a genuine Moor, not the thick-lipped negro who commonly represents him (we are not quite sure what Shakespeare's own conception was). Iago is powerfully drawn. It is in the delineation of female beauty that the artist appears to least advantage. Paper and type are all that could be wished.
