The Dumfries election resulted in the return of Mr. Gulland,
the Liberal candidate, by a majority of 292 votes. At the General Election Mr. Gulland was returned by a majority of 633 votes. If we consider the small number of electors, this diminution of the Liberal vote is remarkable. If the Budget were as popular as its friends and advocates desire us to believe, one would not see figures of this kind.
