As regards the Peace Treaty, Mr. Asquith said there were

two tests by which it must be judged, a false teat and a true test. The false test was to compare it with any Treaty a victorious Germany might have imposed. To take a model of that kind " would be to give the lie to all our professions, and to smirch or even surrender our ideals." The true test was whether it

accomplished in substance and spirit the purpose for which the war was began and carried on. History would judge the Treat, by this teat and no other. Mr. Asquith went on to give whole- hearted support to the League of Nations, which he regarded as the greatest achievement of the Paris Conference.
