Examples of country humour also reached my ears on the Budget. In a group outside a small and very rural public house one man held up a cigarette-lighter and offered it for sale, and was told that he had missed his market. An older and more silent member announced that he was going to smoke nothing but 0.P.E.'s, or other people's ends. How much better is all this jesting than vitriolic comment!
