- It is understood that the measure contemplated by Ministers
for restoring 'peace to Ireland, if possibk, is to commuti the tithe for a land-tax, to be collected by the Government tax-gatherers, with the barony, cess, and other public taxes. The produce will be distributed among the present incumbents, power being re- served to Parliament, on the incumbencies ceasing, to allot it as may be deemed best.
