The electors of Meath have returned Michael Davitt unop- posed.
The election is, of course, void, as Davitt is undergoing a regular legal sentence, but the occurrence shows the temper of the county. Davitt is a much better man than most Land Leaguers, and honestly endeavours to prevent outrages, espe- cially on animals, but we should like to hear his opinion on the subject of political ingratitude. " England gives us the agrarian reform we desired,—therefore, away with England !" That is the meaning of this return.
