The by-election in the Hartlepool division caused by the unseating
of Sir Christopher Furness took place on Monday. The result of the polling was the return of the Liberal, Mr. S. W. Furness, with 6,159 votes against the 5,993 of Mr. W. H. Gritten, the Unionist. The majority is therefore 166, more than six hundred less than in January.
